Our Doctor:
Dr. Emily Winebarger Hoss
Dr. Hoss is a native of Southwest Virginia. She graduated from Abingdon High School, where she was heavily involved in FFA and developed an early passion for agriculture, livestock, and veterinary medicine. She went to VHCC and Emory & Henry University to complete undergraduate coursework before continuing her education at the Virginia–Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2022.
Today, Dr. Hoss is the owner of Wayside Veterinary Clinic and the veterinarian leading our team. Following graduation, she began her career in both companion animal and large animal medicine. As a small animal vet she gained experience working at a very busy hospital performing all duties of a general practitioner. On the large animal side, she worked closely with livestock producers and gained valuable, hands-on experience in field medicine. These experiences have helped shape her desire to practice quality medicine and serve the people and pets in the area she loves. She now brings that diverse experience into her work, offering a practical and thoughtful approach to veterinary medicine shaped by both rural medicine and companion animal care. Known for her approachable nature and compassionate care, Dr. Hoss is passionate about building lasting relationships with both clients and their animals.
She also enjoys engaging in community events and educating the public on topics related to veterinary medicine. She is often seen at local public schools giving career talks and helping prepare students for careers in veterinary medicine.
Dr. Hoss lives on a farm with her husband, and their two children. Their home is shared with a lively mix of animals, including sheep, cattle, her horse, and her dog - the clinic’s beloved mascot, Goose!
Our Practice Manager:
Chelsey Trent
Chelsey Trent is a native of St. Paul, Virginia, and brings nearly 15 years of experience in animal care and veterinary medicine to Wayside Veterinary Clinic, with the majority of that time working as a veterinary assistant. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) with hopes of pursuing veterinary medical school before returning home to Southwest Virginia.
Today, Chelsey is the Practice Manager at Wayside Veterinary Clinic. She is often the first smiling face clients see when they walk through the door, scheduling appointments, managing most of the clinic's social media presence, and helping keep the day-to-day operations running smoothly behind the scenes. Her organization, dedication, and genuine love for both pets and people help create the welcoming environment our clients know and trust.
Throughout her career, Chelsey has worked in a variety of veterinary settings, gaining experience in surgery, patient care, client education, biomedical research, and animal welfare. She has a special interest in senior pet care and end-of-life care and feels honored to help families navigate some of the most difficult and compassionate moments of pet ownership.
Outside of the clinic, Chelsey and her husband, a police officer for the City of Bristol, Tennessee, live on a farm in Abingdon that's been part of her husband's family for over 200 years. Their home is shared with three Golden Retrievers, four Dalmatians, one Australian Shepherd, cats, goats, and cattle. She enjoys makeup and all things girly, her day planner, exploring the Appalachian Mountains with her husband and dogs, photography, and sharing their adventures through her social media account, @theappalachiantails.
Our Veterinary Assistant & Technician Supervisor:
Jadyn Singleton
Jadyn Singleton is a dedicated veterinary assistant with a lifelong passion for animal care. She began her career in veterinary medicine immediately after graduating at age 18 and has accumulated over two years of hands-on experience.
Initially planning to attend veterinary school, Jadyn discovered a true calling as a veterinary assistant and is currently advancing her expertise by pursuing a veterinary technician license through an online program. She is deeply committed to providing compassionate care and exceptional customer service, treating every patient with the same attention and concern as she would her own. Jadyn enjoys hiking and spending quality time with her dog, Bean, whom she rescued early in her career after Bean was injured and brought in through a local rescue.
A lifelong resident of Bristol, Jadyn was actively involved in FFA during her time at John Battle High School. She is honored to serve as the Technician Supervisor at Wayside Veterinary Clinic, where she continues to grow professionally and contribute meaningfully to the field of veterinary medicine.
